Tracks and Traces

My immediate environment is the source for most of my work. I am interested in man's interaction with the landscape. The timeless concept of working the land and the role seasons play in shaping that interaction.

The year's activity begins in Feb/March when the tractors are out ploughing, thus beginning the yearly cycle. This year the crop in the local fields is corn.

I became interested in the marks on the wet, turned earth, left by the tractor tyres. There were many different marks and I found it difficult to choose one, so have incorporated several into this piece. Have looked at building up layers to narrate the history of mankind harnessing the land throughout the ages.

Timeless activities - ploughing-planting-growing-harvesting.

Birth-life-death-renewal.
