Artist's statement
My lifelong interest in textiles and stitch began with my mother who had an old, even at that time, treadle sewing machine. I was allowed to use it from an early age and was very used to seeing clothes and household textiles needs being made at home. At school my needlework teachers followed the needlework development scheme so I was allowed considerable input in to the choice of stitches and colours used in my work, a fortunate background for a textile worker. My recent work in creating pots and vessel from fabric also incorporates techniques which I developed while using a potter's wheel. My future vessels will reflect themes based on my travels and the years I spent in Africa.
