Artist's statement
I trained at d.j.c.a. ... in printed textiles then weaving and embroidery ... I have recently completed city and guilds parts 1 & 2 in embroidery ... I am a member of edge, embroiderers' guild, international feltmakers association, diverse fibres and fibretrix ...
texture is what interests me most ... both in nature and in fabrics, stitch and fibres ... I have been very hungry to explore and learn all the new techniques and materials that have been introduced over the years and have found all this very exciting ... from the rough qualities of wool and fibres to the shiney glitz of luxurious fabrics and metals ... exploring and experimenting with new ideas and materials to create textures using these mediums ... at the moment feltmaking is providing an expression for my love of texture and form ... it is tactile and soft, yet strong and coarse and can be effective on both a large and small scale ... as a foil to the natural colours and organic nature of felt and fibres I also love all the sparkle and glitz and colours of the new materials and techniques of metals and stitch ... I am a butterfly by nature and like to flit between the two ... I want to experiment and move forward all the time ... my next project is to explore the textural qualities of the embellisher machine and perhaps try 3 dimensional and larger scale pieces
