Artist's Statement
Much of my work has dealt with the twin themes of landscape and the impact of modern life on the environment. I am seldom short of inspiration and try to keep up to date sketch books. I use a variety of constructed textile and mixed media techniques, found objects, and handmade felt and paper to communicate my ideas; and over the past few years have used recycled materials when possible. Since returning to Scotland after 5 1/2 years in Abu Dhabi I have been working on a way to express my concerns about the political situation in the Middle East, and the impact on ordinary members of society.
From autumn 2001 to March 2002 I was artist in residence at Barnhill Primary School, Broughty Ferry Dundee, where as part of 'Big Hand-Little Hand' I worked with the Primary 7 classes on a large Felt and Stitched Hanging for the School. Subsequently I published an article in the International Feltmakers Magazine describing the project.
Exhibitions include Visual Arts Scotland, Edge - Textile Artists Scotland, The Collins Gallery, The Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation and The Dubai Arts Club.
In the UAE I worked as the co-ordinator for the Abu Dhabi Ladies Art Group; taught a drawing class; joined forces with a set designer to design and make costumes for events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and took part in regular exhibitions.
I am currently serving on the 'edge' Committee.
