Artist's statement
On completing my Diploma in Drawing and Painting in 1982 at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, I joined the newly formed Embroidery Group, Embryo, in 1983, having studied Embroidery as my craft subject on my course, and have been a member since. I then studied Embroidery City and Guilds of London Parts 1 and 2. In 1996 I had a hat shown in the 'Headline' hat exhibition at the Collins Gallery, Glasgow, which also visited Shambellie House Costume Museum, Dumfriesshire. My work has been shown in most of the Group shows in Dundee and at Aberdeen and Stonehaven and in London at Hampton Court in 1990 and also in London at the Knitting and Stitching Show 2003 which also visited Harrogate and Dublin. In 2005 I took part in 'Inspired Edge' at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl.
Recently, I have been again doing some painting, this time for the University Alumni Virtual Exhibition which is on view at present, and I hope to return to Embroidery this year, 2007.
My work has increasingly incorporated machine embroidery, but has often involved collage and fabric painting. My inspiration has usually been naturalistic rather than abstract.
