Flight Path
Artist's statement
After training in embroidery in Edinburgh, I joined
the Embroiderer's Guild and was involved with
workshops and teaching children through the Young
Textile Group. I have exhibited with the
Embroiderer's Guild and the New Scottish Embroidery
Group, and currently with Edge and Diverse Fibres, a
felt/fibre group.
My main interest is in exploring the use of fibres,
wool, silk, flax, paper, etc in felt making. I find
this a very expressive means of translating paint to
fabric, retaining many of the painterly qualities in
the felt. I am frequently inspired by the glories of
the natural world and wild places. I am currently
working on a series of pieces featuring seascapes and
birds, using fibres with machine and hand embroidery.
As a complete contrast I am also interested in
ecclesiastical work, which allows me to indulge in the
use of rich colour, silks and gold threads.
